SASI's annual Youth Shoot

Folks:

This year’s annual Youth Shoot is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th. The location is Old Bethpage Rifle & Pistol Club, at 70 Kean St., West Babylon. The time, for the youngsters to arrive, is by 8:45am, so they can have time to sign in, then find a seat. Adults are to drop off the youngsters. We don’t have enough room, to accommodate the adults, without reducing the number of seats available to the youngsters. The class is limited, to 39 youngsters.

PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED, USING THE FORM PROVIDED AT THE END OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

The students must be at least age 12 but not more than age 17, on the day of the event. The students will be in the upstairs classroom, until approximately noon, during which time they will participate in a youth-friendly version of the NRA’s Rifle Safety Course, for which they will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
After the classroom portion, there will be a lunch break. We will provide a free lunch, of pizza and soft drinks, for the students and staff but, for those who may have food allergies or who wish to bring another type of lunch, we can put those lunches in the refrigerator but each will have to include some external form of identification, to differentiate it from those of the others’ lunches, if refrigeration is required. Bottled water, bottled juice drinks and canned soda will be available, at no charge, for students and our staff, throughout the event. Staff will, also, have coffee, donuts and soft drinks available, throughout the day.
After lunch, the youngsters will move downstairs, in small groups, to the range, where they will shoot, for qualification, using .22 caliber, bolt-action, iron-sighted rifles, with experienced instructors, in a one-on-one scenario. Those who are not shooting will remain in the classroom, until their turn to shoot. Those, who have completed shooting, will return to the classroom, while the others shoot. It is strongly suggested that each of the students brings a book, magazine or other item, to keep him/her occupied, while s/he is waiting to shoot or while waiting for his/her group to complete the cycle. If your youngster or his/her group finishes, before all others have completed the cycle, s/he is free to leave, provided there is an adult pick up.
The youngsters will be allowed to keep their targets, as souvenirs, after they are scored and certified, as well as their reusable ear plugs. If any student is taking this course, to earn the Scouting Rifle Merit Badge, s/he must bring his/her Scouting Blue Card, which we will collect, have certified, then returned, to the local Scoutmaster. The local Scoutmasters will determine the nature, date and time of the merit badge award ceremony, in accordance with that troop’s award procedures. We will have right-handed and left-handed rifles, for the youngsters. Scouting uniforms are optional.
