SASI Sponsors Marksmanship Course for Boy Scouts and those new to shooting.

On Saturday May 4th, SASI successfully conducted a Youthshoot/BSA merit badge qualifier at Old Bethpage R &P Club.  SASI provided free soft drinks throughout the day, plus a free lunch for all participants.  All youngsters were able to keep and take home their targets, ear plugs and shooting glasses, compliments of SASI. All equipment and ammunition was provided. The use of the facility was donated by Old Bethpage R &P

Club,Inc., the ammo was donated by a SASI member, the targets were donated by Benson’s GunShop, Inc. (in Coram ) and the NYSDEC’s Region1 ECOs provided the use of some of their rifles and staff.  The class portion of the day included a youth-friendly version of the NRA Basic Rifle Safety course , for which the students received a completion certificate. The range portion began after lunch and provided one-on -one instruction, with experienced instructors. Boy scouts who participated also received the Rifle Merit Badge for their efforts.

Third Annual SASI Dinner & Fund Raiser - A Good Time For a Good Cause!

On Friday night, April 26th, 2013, SASI held its annual Dinner & Fund Raiser at the Elks Lodge in Smithtown.  The event was well attended, the food was good, and the prizes were many, and it was a fun time.  Most attendees left the dinner with at least 1 prize in hand. First SASI NYS Boater's Safety Course - A Big Success

The recent SASI Sponsored Boater's Safety Course which was held at Caleb Smith State Park on April 10 & 17, was attended by 27 Sportsmen & Sportswomen. It was a huge success. In its first attempt to bring this required  8 hour course to its members, SASI had great attendance, and also a 100% pass rate.  It is possible that SASI will offer another such course in the Fall, depending upon interest.  Keep checking the website for updates.   Special thanks to Clarence at Caleb Smith, and to the instructors from the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

SASI TO OFFER BOATER'S SAFETY COURSE

SASI is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring a Coast Guard Auxiliary Boater’s Safety Course which will be held at Caleb Smith State Park in April. The new Suffolk County law requires a Boater’s Safety Certifcate, and applies to Suffolk County residents who intend to operate a motor boat in Suffolk County waters. Satisfactory completion of this course will result in a certificate which will meet the requirements of the new law. The 8 hour course will be given in two parts, from 6-10 pm on Wednesday April 10, 2013 and then from 6-10 pm on Wednesday April 17, 2013. The course will be held at Caleb Smith State Park. All SASI clubs and their members are eligible to apply. Instruction manuals, study guides and testing materials will be provided by the instructor who must pre-purchase these items from NY State. The 2013 price list for these items has not yet been posted by the State, but the registration cost is expected to be @ $35 per student.
